Accredited by Christian environment charity A Rocha our church has taken action in five key areas to achieve important changes that benefit our planet:
- Land and Nature
- Building and Energy
- Lifestyle
- Worship and Teaching
- Community and Global engagement.
Meeting every couple of months our Eco-Church team has gradually worked on assessing and delivering manageable change. Instead of feeling like hard work, it has been fun and helped us to not feel overwhelmed by the impacts of the climate emergency and threat to biodiversity that we see on the news. The structure of the EcoChurch award scheme has provided a helpful scaffolding to channel our love of Creation into meaningful action, and this award is an encouragement to keep going.
We’re now hoping to support the other churches in our parish and Deanery as they look at the steps they can make towards becoming ‘greener’.
Being part of the EcoChurch scheme aligns with our Diocesan commitment to be an EcoDiocese and embed Care for Creation into every aspect of our life together.
The Church of England is also encouraging Christians everywhere to do all we can to engage in its ambitions Environment Programme including striving to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030.
We are part of something much bigger too – God’s glorious creation where people all around the world are waking up and appreciating the fragile beauty and abundance that is all around us!
